Vision Statement

The Governmental Affairs Department enhances civic education amongst the student body while accurately and effectively representing student issues on all policy levels.

Key Projects

Evening with Your Elected Officials

This December event successfully bridged the gap between the student body and local governance by connecting 20 students directly with 15 elected officials from city, state, and county levels. The forum facilitated critical advocacy on issues affecting student life, including affordable housing, food insecurity, and higher education funding, empowering students to voice their concerns directly to decision-makers.

Voter Registration Initiatives

Through collaborative tabling events with the League of Women Voters and county election departments, this initiative successfully registered dozens of students to vote ahead of the November elections. By bringing resources directly to campus and clarifying voting procedures, the department significantly lowered barriers to civic participation and ensured students were ready to make their voices heard at the ballot box.

Mayoral Candidate Roundtable

This interactive forum brought five mayoral candidates and community partners to campus, providing students with a direct platform to vet local platforms and discuss campaign issues. The event empowered attendees to make informed rankings on their ballots and demonstrated specifically how local governance and civic engagement directly impact the CSU student experience.

Legislative Strategy Advisory Board (LSAB) Launch

The operational launch of this board creates a dedicated mechanism for tracking and influencing legislation related to higher education, immigration, diversity, and environmental issues. By formalizing this advocacy body, ASCSU ensures that student interests are accurately represented in policy discussions and that the student voice is unified and strategic regarding state-level issues.

Legislative Bill Tracker & Policy Summarization

To increase transparency within student government, this project compiles and summarizes complex State and ASCSU Senate legislation into an accessible, user-friendly format,. This ongoing resource breaks down barriers to understanding policy, allowing the wider student body to easily track the bills and decisions that shape their university environment without needing specialized political knowledge,.
