Traditions and Programs
Vision Statement
The traditions department aims to create a fun and inclusive environment at all ASCSU events for all students. We will accomplish this by working in collaboration with organizations across CSU to fully encompass the student experience as well as maintaining and building upon the traditions put forth by this department in prior years.
Key Projects
Student Tailgate Series
Serving as a cornerstone of campus culture, these events provided a safe and spirited Game Day environment for an estimated 3,000 students per game, significantly fostering community connection and school pride. By implementing robust feedback systems and coordinating across multiple university departments, the initiative ensured an inclusive experience that strengthened the relationship between the student body and CSU Athletics.
Snow Days and Rail Jam
By elevating this beloved tradition into a university-funded event, the department successfully advocated for student interests during complex logistical changes to ensure the event remained accessible and engaging. This large-scale collaboration with the Snowriders organization protected the student experience during the venue transition, preserving a unique campus tradition that celebrates winter culture.
Saddle Up and Vote Election Campaign
To actively combat voter apathy, this creative outreach campaign utilizes high-energy activities—including a mechanical bull and a “Pancakes for the Polls” event—to capture student attention and immediately direct it toward civic participation. These events break down barriers to political engagement by meeting students where they are, effectively leveraging social activities to increase voter turnout and ensure student representation.
Arts on the Plaza
This new cultural initiative creates a dedicated platform for student artists to showcase their talents, ranging from choirs to visual arts, directly enhancing the vibrancy of the LSC Plaza. By organizing these showcases, the department ensures that creative students receive public recognition while exposing the broader student body to diverse peer-led artistic expressions they might otherwise miss.
Campus Leaders Series
Designed to empower student organizations, this educational initiative provides critical professional development and training on essential skills like budgeting and event planning to leaders who may lack access to these resources. By connecting student groups with experts and administration, the series strengthens the infrastructure of student life, allowing organizations to operate more effectively and deliver better programming to their members.
